Wheelchair access van available for loan
We have some wonderful community support, and none moreso than from the Manasserian Family.
Jack and Susan run the Moffat Beach Post Office. They heard of The Board Meeting through committee member Mike Belnap and we got a phone call - Jack would like to donate a fully-equipped disabled van to the charity.
The Board Meeting loans the vehicle to the families of disabled Sunshine Coast children so they can got to the movies or the beach or simply "get out of the house".
It is a sad fact that some children haven't been out of the house, except to go to school, for several years.
Jack tells the story of the van.
"Mum was in a nursing home in Sydney and she needed a wheel chair to get around. To buy a wheelchair was not a problem. But having a large, close family we always had events and occasions to celebrate. The problem was to transport Mum to the venues.
"Arranging a taxi or hire car with wheelchair access was a major issue. Taxis had to be booked in advance and yet always arrived 2-3 hours late. By that time Mum was overtired or asleep.
"So we decided to purchase a van with wheelchair access. A Sunshine Coast cabbie was retiring, and a quick sale was concluded. The van was transported to Sydney, and the whole family enjoyed the convenience of taking mum and dad to all our family gatherings.
"My father passed away and Mum is bed ridden, and therefore we no longer have any use for the van and my sister, brother and I agreed that they would be very happy for us to donate it to a charity on their behalf."
So to the Manasserian family, you have hearts of gold and we thank you sincerely for the most generous donation.
