Contest Rules

1. The contest will be conducted under the specific authority of the Contest Director whose decision in
all manners of fact shall be final.
2. The Contest Director may appoint and remove Judges at any time during the Contest.
3. The Contest shall be held under the Rules contained in the Surfing Australia Rule Book (most
recent edition), as interpretated by the Contest Director, unless those Rules conflict with these
Rules or Bulletins or Supplementary Rules issued by the Contest Director or the organisers.

TEAMS

4. Teams shall consist of four (4) riders.
5. At least one (1) rider in each team must use a long board (8 ft or more). Riders must compete on a
board of the length specified in their entry form.
6. Heats will be twenty (20) minutes, with only one (1) surfer from each team allowed to compete at
any one time.
7. Team members not competing shall assemble where designated by the Contest Director or an
authorised Marshall.
8. The Contest Director may allow one (1) member from each team, when not competing, to assemble
in an area adjacent to the line up to facilitate speed of transmission.
9. The event shall be a tag-team-event with each member of each team required to post one (1) score
per heat.
10. Each rider’s best score from each team will contribute to the team total.
11. Team scores shall be calculated as follows:-
(a) Best wave score (out of 10) for rider A multiplied by rider A’s age multiplied by rider A’s
board length divided by 100.
(b) Best wave score (out of 10) for rider B multiplied by rider B’s age multiplied by rider B’s
board length divided by 100.
(c) Best wave score (out of 10) for rider C multiplied by rider C’s age multiplied by rider C’s
board length divided by 100.
(d) Best wave score (out of 10) for rider D multiplied by rider D’s age multiplied by rider D’s
board length divided by 100.
(e) Aggregate score for all four (4) riders equals the team score for the heat.

RIDER TRANSITION

12. Riders can enter the water and catch as many waves as they wish during the twenty (20) minute
heat, bearing in mind that only one (1) can be in the water at any time, and each rider from each
team must provide a score.
13. The rider exiting the contest area will proceed to the transition point designated by the Contest
Director, wave both hands over his head in signal to the Judges, and tag another team member to
indicate a transition from one rider to another.
14. Only once this is done, can another rider from that team enter the contest area.

15. All teams must present all competitors for registration between 5pm Friday and the commencement of competition at 6am Saturday.
16. The Contest Director’s decision in all matters throughout the tournament is final and unappealable.
17. The Contest Director, in order to ensure that fun is a more important element than competition,
reserves the right to make decisions to keep the contest flowing smoothly and quickly, and keep the
atmosphere light.
18. Penalties may be applied for over-competitive behaviour, at the discretion of the Contest Director.

MISCELLANEOUS
